10 New Year’s Skincare Resolutions To Make In 2023

It's that time of year again! Time to reflect on the past year and set some new goals for the coming one. If you're like most people, you probably have some New Year's resolutions that you'd like to stick to. But let's be real: most of us will probably ditch our plans to hit the gym every day or finally start that diet by February.

But there's one resolution that's easy to keep, and it's good for you too: taking better care of your skin. Taking care of your skin is so important for your overall health and well-being, and it’s something that we should all be paying attention to. Whether you're wanting to get serious about anti-aging, just want to up your everyday beauty game, or if you're looking to refresh your skincare routine in 2023, here are a few ideas to get you started.

  1. Get more sleep.

We all know that getting enough sleep is important for our overall health, but it's also crucial for keeping our skin looking its best. When we don't get enough shut-eye, our skin shows it: we can get dark circles, puffy eyes, and a dull, uneven complexion. If you’re seeing more dark circles, dull skin, and breakouts, those are all signs that you need to get more sleep. So one of the best things you can do for your skin is to resolve to get more sleep. Aim for at least 7-8 hours a night, and your skin will thank you.

  1. Drink more water.

Staying hydrated is key for healthy, glowing skin. Water is essential for healthy skin. It helps to flush out toxins and keep your skin cells hydrated. When we don't drink enough water, our skin can look dull, dry, and lifeless. So make a resolution to drink more water this year, and your skin will look all the better for it. Aim to drink 8 glasses of water a day and you’ll see a big difference in your skin’s appearance.

  1. Eat more healthy fats and eat more healthy foods.

Just like the rest of your body, your skin benefits from eating healthy foods. Incorporate more fruits, vegetables, and healthy fats into your diet and you’ll see a difference in your skin’s texture and appearance.

Healthy fats are essential for keeping our skin supple and hydrated. Look for foods that are rich in omega-3 fatty acids, like fatty fish (salmon, tuna, etc), nuts and seeds, and healthy cold-pressed oils like olive oil, avocado oil, and coconut oil.

You should also try to cut back on sugar. Too much sugar can cause inflammation and breakouts. Cut back on sugary foods and drinks to help keep breakouts at bay.

  1. Use sunscreen every day.

This one is so important! Sunscreen is a must-have in your skincare routine, even in the winter. It helps to protect your skin from the sun’s harmful rays and can help to prevent premature aging. This is non-negotiable! Look for sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher.

  1. Exfoliate regularly.

Exfoliating once or twice a week will help to reveal brighter, smoother skin. It will also speed up the turnover of cells and remove dead skin cells that sit on the skin's surface and clog pores. Depending on your skin type you might prefer a physical exfoliating scrub or a chemical, peeling-type exfoliant. Try both to see which one works best for your skin type.

  1. Invest in a good skincare routine.

Your skincare routine is so important for keeping your skin healthy and happy. Invest in some good quality products and take the time to care for

  1. Visit a dermatologist or skin care professional for regular check-ups.

Part of taking care of your skin is visiting the dermatologist at least once a year to scan for any moles or spots that could potentially turn into skin cancer. It’s important to monitor the skin all over your body and not just your face to keep your skin healthy.

You can also start getting regular facials with an esthetician to help clear out clogged pores (leave the zit popping to the professionals please!) and improve your overall complexion. Plus, they just feel nice and are a great way to practice self-care.

  1. Get into a good cleansing routine.

One of the most essential products in any good skincare routine is a great cleanser! Whether using it in the morning or evening, you need a cleanser that can remove grime, makeup, SPF, pollution, and sweat. We also love a caffeinated face wash in the mornings to wake us up.

Double cleansing, using a face wash and then micellar water or oil, is a great way to thoroughly cleanse your skin without stripping it of its natural oils. You can either use the same cleanser twice or use an oil cleanser followed by a foaming or cream cleanser.

  1. Manage your stress levels.

Stress isn’t good for your overall health, but it also affects your skin, leading to dullness and breakouts. Take the time to manage your stress levels in 2023 by practicing self-care, mindfulness, and other stress-relieving habits like spending less time on social media, moving your body, and journaling.

  1. Avoid smoking and limit alcohol consumption.

Smoking is bad for your health in general, but it's also a major contributor to premature aging of the skin. Like smoking, too much alcohol can also lead to premature aging of the skin and leave your skin looking dull and dehydrated.

So what are your New Year’s Resolutions? Are you revamping your skincare routine or maybe incorporating healthier foods into your diet? Making even just a few of these resolutions will help you achieve healthier, more radiant skin in 2023!
